There’s no place like home

Toto, we are not in Kansas anymore.

We are in one of my favourite cake haunts in Manchester, HomeSweetHome.

Head pastry chef/evil genius monster cake creator Bakeorama delivers masterpiece after masterpiece of wondrous incomprehensible joy on a daily basis to its cake counters and us humble home bakers can do nothing but cower in her unfathomable shadow.

Top sellers include a Jack Daniels Maple Bacon spiked Carrot Cake with Salted Caramel Frosting (yeah you heard me), Disco Sponge with Strawberry Milkshake frosting and TRILLIONAIRES Shortbread. There is also a cake which has an Apple Pie baked inside *gasp*.

Yep. That’s a Gingerbread house. On top of a cake.

That’s not to mention the menu of scrumptious savoury food, although that has always been a secondary concern for me (cheeseburger toastie anyone?) and the coffee! Oh the coffee is magnificent.

It goes without saying that this woman is my Queen. If you are ever within 25 miles of Manchester’s Northern Quarter get your butt down there. On a weekend, you might have to wait a while whilst drooling at the counter, or you could be really clever and take your slice home.

Or y’know to the kerb outside because you can’t wait.

The slices themselves are the size of a kerb so that’s quite fitting really.

Bakeorama also provides the desserts for Almost Famous and Luck, Lust, Liquor and Burn. But more on that later.

Homesweethome, we salute you!
