Top 10 Breakfast, Brunch and Bakes- Liverpool Edition

Liverpool_Pier_Head_from_ALbert_Dock

I might be married to Manchester, but Liverpool is my Liver-Bird on the side.

Even since I did my Manchester Edition of Top 10 Breakfast, Brunch and Bakes  you have been crying out for the North’s second city edition.

So, I put on the big-belt and hit the ground running, sampling some of the scrummiest scran the Scoucers have to offer. Now you can all *calm- down, calm-down* cos’ here it is. Sorry.

10. Moose Coffee

There’s a Moose loose on Dale Street and they have the biggest Brekkie menu you have ever seen!

america-style-pancakes

This American-style diner specialises in eggs, pancakes, waffles and is a specialist in Breakfast as an all day affair.

For a savoury pick, try the New Orleans Moose- two poached eggs on a bed of pulled pork smothered in hollandaise.

9. Cafe Tabac

348s

Cafe by day and boozer by night, Cafe Tabac is a long standing legend on Bold Street, in the heart of the city. Breakfast is served from 9am-5pm every day, so you can cure your hangover after a lie-in with a plate full of goodness long after noon.

Not the most glamorous of surroundings, but the toast is thick and the price is right and that makes it a winner in my book.

8. Central Perk

Central-Perk-04

I’ll be there for you and tell you that the food at Central Perk isn’t the best thing about the place. There is a reasonable offering of American themed sarnies and salads but the real draw is a chance to sit on the worlds most famous orange sofa and watch Friends on repeat.

Could I BE any more excited?

The cake is good, the coffee is great and the milkshakes…OH. MY. GOD!

Just make sure to order your own, because JOEY DOESN’T SHARE FOOD.

…I’ll stop now.

7. Camp and Furnace

camp-and-furnace

It might sound like a place where you could buy a tent before heading out into the woods armed with timber but C&F is actually an incredibly versatile space with a cracking line up.

When it’s not hosting a gig or a big screen cinema screening C&F serves up some of Merseyside’s finest grub and is particularly known for it’s outstanding black pudding. You know, if dried pigs blood is your thing.

6. Baltic Bakehouse

Finding Baltic is a bit like going on a spiritual pilgrimage for baked-goods. Situated in the ‘Baltic Triangle’ on the wrong side of Jamaica Street, it might seem like a bit of a trek.

But keep the faith sister, because when you reach the holy-land, the bread will rise again and you will be rewarded with the crustiest artisan loaf in the City.

Yep, that’s a toaster on the table.

Nothing like a bit of breakfast DIY to feel like you really earned those two slices of doorstep sourdough. The pastries are darn-well spectacular too.

5. Bold Street Coffee

boldstreetcoffee

Don’t let the name fool ya, they do breakfast and some boss cakes too. French toast, scrambled eggs and creamy mushrooms on toast come screaming out of the caffeine-fuelled kitchen until 4 daily.

Top that off with a peanut butter and dark chocolate chunky cookie and the finest beans around and you are good-to-go.

Just don’t ask for a Vanilla Latte without expecting a telling off from the Barista. These guys take coffee as seriously as I take cake.

4.  Bakchich

What did the cheese say when it looked in the mirror?

…Hall-ou-mi!

bakchich

Sorry to be cheesy, but if you’re looking for an alternative to the fry up, look no further than Bakchich on Bold Street.

Their Full Lebanese breakfast makes the Full English take a good hard look at itself in the mirror and question it’s inadequacies. Shakshouka? Sure! Dive right in and dip your flat bread in dippy eggs swimming in baked tomato sauce.

Liverpool isn’t called the City of Culture for nothing.

3. The Brunch Club

There’s a new kid on the Duke St and they serve Coffee and Cocktails.

It’s never too early, right?

The bare-walled lofty interior is a perfect setting for a lazy afternoon scoffing smashed avocado toast and chocolate cake straight from the counter.

Stay all day and sample lunch too. And dinner. And drunken supper after the booze.

2. OhMeOhMy

oh_me_oh_my1

On weekends this gorgeous dock-side space is transformed into a wedding venue fave but Monday-Friday, anyone can head on in for a spot of Afternoon Tea.

Feel like the ultimate lady for a day and scoff scones with cream and jam whilst checking your face in the movie-star mirror surrounded by glowing lightbulbs.

A more sophisticated breakfast (gruyere cheese and pancetta, anyone?) is served until noon.

1. Leaf

CGAQwimWYAAJpTo

If  you want a table at Leaf on a Saturday then get prepared for some elbow-barging and a lengthy queue at the bar to order.

But as they say, where there’s tea, there’s hope and I can guarantee it’s worth the struggle.

If tea is your..erm…cup of tea, then you are in the right place. Leaf offers tasting masterclasses to spruce up your know-how.

Breakfast-wise, choose from Full-English, Vegan, Pescatarian and good old Veggie along with a host of other yummy morning treats.

A true Liverpool institution that has to be worth a visit. Just make sure you pop in your rollers first.
